SUMMARY:Meet the Media: Bilingual publishing\, Latino media and building social trust
DESCRIPTION:Learn about bilingual publishing\, Latino media in the Midwest and what it takes to build community trust on social platforms with Sonya Anaya Chevigny and Yvette Vargas. Sonya is the founder of LatinosIndy.com and Yvette is media host and segment producer with Telemundo Indy. Special appearance by Aaron Robles of Latinos Count. \nRegistration is $10 for members and $25 for nonmembers. There is free neighborhood street parking on Boulevard and 42nd. Free sandwiches will be catered by Hoagies and Hops. \nThanks to our overall sponsors including Hirons\, platinum sponsor! \nREGISTER HERE \n\nAbout Our Presenters \nSonya Anaya Chevigny is the founder of LatinosIndy.com\, the bilingual digital media platform serving Indianapolis’s Latino community across web\, Instagram\, Facebook\, and WhatsApp. She’s Indianapolis-born\, first-generation Mexican-American\, and spent 20+ years in marketing and communications before launching the platform in 2024. The reason was personal: to address a gap she had observed throughout her life\, a fast-growing Latino community in Central Indiana without a centralized\, trusted\, bilingual resource. LatinosIndy.com now reaches more than 15\,000 followers and 6\,000 monthly site visitors. Its sponsorship model partners brands with the community through educational storytelling instead of traditional ads\, and the editorial work — news\, video\, and original content series — is published natively in both English and Spanish for an audience that lives in both. Sonya speaks on bilingual publishing\, Latino media in the Midwest\, and what it takes to build community trust on social platforms. \nYvette Vargas is the Founder of YVARE Productions\, a platform dedicated to elevating voices\, creating intentional experiences\, and connecting communities through media and presence. With a background in Organizational Leadership and nonprofit social services\, she specializes in bridging people\, ideas\, and opportunities through strategic storytelling and event execution. Yvette works with Telemundo Indy\, where she highlights impactful stories within the Latino community. She also works with Coburn Place\, supporting initiatives that empower individuals and families. In addition\, she serves as Secretary Board Member of Tu Refugio Seguro\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence and creating safe\, empowering spaces or healing and growth with all their resources being in Spanish. Her work centers on amplifying underrepresented voices\, fostering meaningful connections\, and creating spaces where culture\,  community\, and opportunity thrive. Passionate about representation and community empowerment\, Yvette continues to use her voice and platform to inspire\, connect\, and create lasting impact.  he is proudly Mexican and deeply rooted in honoring her heritage through her work and community involvement. \nAaron Robles is a serial entrepreneur and community builder with a passion for  bringing people together and creating spaces where everyone can thrive. A bilingual Mexican immigrant and DACA recipient\, Aaron is the Founder of Hyprnova\, a bilingual design agency  rooted in authentic storytelling\, and leads programming at Latinos Count\, an organization serving Latino youth. He serves on the board of the Neighborhood Health Clinic and is a Fellow of the Mitch Daniels Leadership Foundation. Aaron has been recognized as a TEDx Fort Wayne speaker\, 2023 SkillsUSA National Keynote Speaker in Atlanta\, and GFW Business Weekly 40 Under 40 recipient. He brings a powerful story and genuine passion for uplifting underserved communities to every stage he steps on.

SUMMARY:AI & A1: Artificial Intelligence and A-list Media
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Sarah Bahr of The New York Times \n\nOur Meet the Media series continues on July 9 with a cutting-edge virtual doubleheader: AI & A1 — a conversation at the intersection of artificial intelligence and A-list media. \nWe’ll start with a presentation/conversation about artificial intelligence (namely\, the free software that generates on-demand words and images such as ChatGPT) in public relations. It’ll be an illuminating and uncomfortable conversation fueled by the anonymous insights of our chapter members! It’s a can’t miss. As Indy Star columnist James Briggs recently wrote\, “AI can be your assistant — or your replacement.” \nHeadlining the second half of this virtual event is none other than Sarah Bahr\, the sharp\, versatile\, and award-winning culture reporter at The New York Times. \nAt The Times\, Sarah splits her time between high-profile culture reporting and newsroom-wide editing\, meaning she not only tells stories but helps shape how they’re told across one of the most influential newsrooms in the world. With more than 720 stories across 14 desks under her belt\, Sarah is a voice journalists and PR pros alike should be paying close attention to. And yes\, we’ll be talking to her about the intersection of AI and journalism. \n\nDetails \nWednesday\, July 9\nVirtual doubleheader event (Zoom) \n\n10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.: AI presentation/conversation\n11:15 to noon: Sarah Bahr\n\n$10 for members | $35 for other guests | Free to those who are between jobs \nRegister to get the links. \nREGISTER HERE \n\nOur $10 (member price) total gets you entry into both sessions. The Zoom means you can listen in from your desk and help us generate more revenue to keep the flow of programming coming monthly!

SUMMARY:Meet the Media: Indy & Beyond Regional. National. Virtual.
DESCRIPTION:May is a big month for Indianapolis—and for the PRSA Hoosier Chapter. We’re proud to present our fifth event of 2025\, a virtual panel featuring three esteemed journalists whose careers share a common thread: each has made a significant mark at Indianapolis media outlets. \nMeet the panelists \nAlex Sanz is a senior news leader and fellow at the Media Transformation Challenge—formerly the Sulzberger Executive Leadership Program—at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and The Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg\, Fla.\nHe serves on the Board of Governors of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and is a member of its prestigious Silver Circle\, which honors a lifetime of dedication to the television industry. Alex is also a member of the White House Correspondents’ Association and a mentor with Military Veterans in Journalism\, which named him Mentor of the Year. He also can be seen as a guest on CNN. Alex spent three years at WTHR-TV (Channel 13) before departing in 2006. \nMark Nichols is an Emmy Award-winning senior manager of data journalism at ABC News and ABC’s Owned Television Stations\, which include major markets such as New York\, Los Angeles\, and Chicago. Since 2020\, he has worked with ABC’s Investigative Unit\, producing data-driven stories across platforms like Nightline\, Prime\, This Week\, Good Morning America\, and World News Tonight.\nEarlier in his career\, Mark spent nearly five years as a data journalist at USA Today and three years at WCPO-TV in Cincinnati. His longest and most impactful stint was at The Indianapolis Star\, where he began as a college intern in 1977. He later became the paper’s first computer-assisted reporting coordinator in 1995\, a role he held until his departure in October 2013. \nRay Cortopassi is an award-winning journalist and current co-anchor of WGN-TV’s Evening News (5 and 6 p.m.)\, News at Nine\, and News at Ten in Chicago.\nBefore returning to his hometown\, Ray was a well-known media figure in central Indiana. He served as anchor and reporter at WXIN-TV (Fox 59) from 2009 to 2020 — anchoring the No. 1 rated morning newscast and 4 p.m. news; before that he was previously the evening anchor at WRTV-TV (Channel 6) from 1999 to 2008. His Indiana roots also include on-air work at WTHR-TV (Channel 13)\, as well as stations in Las Vegas\, Nev.\, and Traverse City\, Mich. He has received numerous journalism honors throughout his career in both Indianapolis and Chicago. \nKris Kirschner and Tom Spalding will co-lead the conversation and discussion. \n\nEvent Details: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday\, May 14.
