The Indiana Bankers Association supports Indiana banking through member communications, issues advocacy, professional development, and connecting member banks with quality service providers. Through supporting nearly 120 bank members, IBA helps bolster the economic vibrancy of Indiana, with banks providing essential financial products and services as well as community outreach to the areas they serve. General Description

Under the general direction of the VP of Member Engagement, this position will support the communications strategy of the association. Areas to be included will be IBA branding, publications, social media and website content, media relations, news releases and any other items that may become relevant. This position will primarily be responsible for writing projects to keep association membership informed while also coordinating strategies for media outreach to bolster the image of Indiana’s banking community.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assists in the implementation of an effective communications strategy across all platforms of Association communication.
  2. Serves as editor of the Hoosier Banker magazine, which includes planning copy schedules, conducting interviews, writing and editing articles, assisting advertisers with ad specifications and ad gathering, and overseeing production.
  3. Manages and tracks all revenue, expenses and delivery related to the Hoosier Banker.
  4. Writes, edits and reviews branding consistency for Association’s outgoing advocacy, informational, marketing and promotional materials or speeches, as needed.
  5. Interacts with media, primarily through writing of news releases and coordination of media inquiries to establish and strengthen relationships.
  6. Coordinates the set up and distribution of press releases.
  7. Seeks opportunities to promote the Association brand through the various media outlets and platforms.
  8. Prepares and coordinates IBA staff and IBA members for media interaction through interview preparation and talking points regarding current banking issues.
  9. Promotes the image of banking by preparation and distribution of various association materials (e.g. Strategic Plan brochure and Annual Report).
  10. Writes various speeches, articles and banking-related op-ed pieces for publication on behalf of IBA executive management or IBA board members.
  11. Monitors Association’s website content and social media platforms for accuracy and appropriate branding.
  12. Provides Association social media content.
  13. Oversees the nominations for various banker and association award opportunities.
  14. Maintains necessary records regarding Association publications, timing of articles, Association and IBA member recognition, etc.
  15. Collaborates regularly with the Director of Multimedia to strategize content creation and delivery, while also ensuring branding consistency.
  16. Captures photos and video at IBA events, as needed. Some events may occur outside normal business hours and may require limited travel.
  17. Performs additional duties, as required.
Qualifications:

Qualifications/skills requirements

Excellent communication skills including writing, verbal and interpersonal skills, while being a creative thinker. A degree in communications, public relations, journalism, digital media or a related field is required. At least three to five years of applicable publication and communications experience, performing like duties. Ability to work on different projects simultaneously and display effective time management skills. Proven talent to organize, work independently and execute details efficiently. Proven ability and proficiency in communications, journalism, public relations, digital and social media or relevant experience. Media relations background helpful. Must be able to interface successfully with members, authors and associates.
