Description:

 The Brian Lamb School of Communication in the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University invites applications for a full-time, Academic Year (9 month) Lecturer position beginning in either January 2023 or August 2023. This position is for a Communication Lecturer in Public Relations – Advertising/Strategic Communication.  The position of full-time Lecturer for the Brian Lamb School of Communication includes the following duties: 

1. Teach four class sections (or equivalent) each semester in the Brian Lamb School of Communication. At least one course assignment will be Boiler Communication, an award-winning student-led PR agency that this lecturer would oversee. Courses taught will also likely include some of the following: Public Relations Techniques, Advertising Copywriting, or Problems in Public Relations. There is also a possibility to develop and teach specialized classes based on the candidate’s background or expertise. 

2. In lieu of teaching one class section, perform administrative tasks related to co-curricular activities (e.g., mentoring programs, skills training, etc.). 

3. Hold all assigned classes in accordance with the university academic calendar. 

4. Hold three office hours each week for undergraduates enrolled in courses taught. 

5. Develop appropriate course syllabi for assigned classes and report final grades for students in a timely fashion in accordance with university policy. 

6. Show willingness to be flexible in course assignments and teaching times according to the Lamb School’s needs. 

7. Abide by all course policies for any course assigned that is overseen by a course supervisor. 

8. Attend training and meetings as required for any course assigned that is overseen by a course supervisor. 

Qualifications:

 B.A. in Communication or related discipline such as Advertising, Strategic Communication, Marketing, or Public Relations (M.A. or M.B.A. preferred); experience teaching undergraduate classes; evidence of teaching effectiveness; strong organizational skills; willingness to be flexible on specific teaching schedules according to the needs of the Lamb School. 

Professional experience in Advertising, Public Relations, or Strategic Communication is also necessary.
