Essential Function

Responsible for executing TCU’s public relations initiatives across all channels to increase TCU’s presence and standing with members, the press, relevant stakeholders and the community overall.

Must be skilled in public relations, communications, media relations, social media, event planning, sponsorship management and have a fundamental understanding of marketing. Responsibilities will include implementing TCU’s public relations strategies to support organizational goals and grow the TCU brand. The role will be expected to gain favorable coverage including awareness of TCU events, community sponsorships and partnerships on social media, newspaper, radio and television.

Requirements include the ability to think strategically, a strong work ethic and aspirations to learn and grow within the organization.

Primary Responsibilities & Duties

  1. Develop connections with community organizations to strengthen TCU’s presence and partnerships.
  2. Plan and organize special promotions and events including community sponsorships and ensure successful promotion of these endeavors via traditional media and social media.
  3. Regular monitoring and posting on TCU’s social media accounts and evaluating impact. Identify and help implement new social media strategies. Also make regular blog posts on the TCU website.
  4. Collaborate with the Marketing Team to promote TCU products and services via PR channels
  5. Develop contacts with the media (TV, radio, print, etc.). Write and issue press releases and pursue other media communications including positive story ideas.
  6. Develop contacts within the credit union to serve as informed spokespersons and provide media training as needed.
  7. Review and evaluate sponsorship and grant requests to TCU and the TCU Foundation and ensure proper announcement and recognition of approved projects.
  8. Effectively build and maintain internal relationships, foster external community partnerships and grow a personal professional network of colleagues
  9. Ensure compliance with all federal regulations related to the credit union industry
  10. Assume additional responsibilities as necessary for the continued growth and advancement of the marketing team and the credit union

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral; as well as professional and creative writing abilities to engage the membership, potential members and team members.
  • Sound project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven decision making and risk management skills in monitoring and responding to social media, as well as traditional media inquiries from reporters.
  • Proficient in measuring behaviors and monitoring changes in opinion, social media conversations, traditional media coverage as well as trending topics that impact the financial and credit union industry
  • Proficient in Social Media, MS Office and HTML

  • Represent and uphold the TCU brand and ensure quality, effective and accurate work
  • Accountable for performance and personal development as well as building relationships within internal and external teams
  • Accountable for performance management goals as agreed upon with Supervisor.
  • Accountable for understanding and applying government laws and regulations and TCU policies and procedures relating to the anti-money laundering regulations including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), US PATRIOT ACT and OFAC.

Minimum Requirement

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  •  Three years postgraduate Public Relations experience.
  • Social Media experience required. Prior marketing experience preferred.
