The Diversity of PR

Gone are the days where PR was just press releases and press conferences. Over the years, PR has evolved into a field with a wide array of career paths and possibilities.
This event brings together a few PR pros from a variety of industries and backgrounds to showcase not only the diversity of the PR field, but also of the professionals within it. Panelists will discuss what PR looks like in their industry and how being a PRSA member has benefited them and served as the common thread connecting them with thousands of other PR pros across all industries.

Sonja Popp-Stahly, APR, Fellow PRSA
With 25 years of experience in agency and corporate communications in New York City and Indianapolis, Sonja Popp-Stahly, APR, Fellow PRSA, has expertise in strategic planning, consumer marketing, media relations, social media, internal communications and issues management. She has also overseen national campaigns for Procter & Gamble, Nabisco, Nestle and Hanes, among others. A past PRSA Hoosier chapter president and former member of the PRSA National Board of Directors, Sonja works in Global Communications at Eli Lilly and Company.
As associate director of strategic initiatives for the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Andrea Farmer develops communication plans, strategies and tactics that educate and build relationships with the Association’s target audiences. In that role, she oversees communications planning and the development of marketing materials that advocate for the value of college sports. Prior to joining the NCAA, Farmer was a senior account director at Borshoff, where she led large integrated accounts and oversaw projects for the Indiana Department of Transportation, the City of Indianapolis, J.D. Byrider, Starbucks, GTECH/Lottomatica and Rose-Hulman’s Homework Hotline, among other clients. She is accredited by PRSA and has served in various board positions for the Hoosier Chapter, including president in 2016. Farmer graduated magna cum laude from Ball State University where she majored in public relations.
Denise Herd, the visionary leader of Herd Strategies, has successfully created an integrated marketing and communications company with a proven track record in branding, marketing, public relations, creative design and communications training. With an emphasis on developing strategies to strengthen market share, she artfully guides clients through the process of creating brand identities, marketing and public relations campaigns and communications strategies to elevate brand awareness and consumer loyalty.
Yolanda White is Manager of Corporate Affairs at Honda Manufacturing of Indiana, (HMIN) LLC. In this role, she is responsible for creating and executing strategies for internal and external communications, government and media relations. Yolanda has worked at HMIN since November 2015. Prior to joining HMIN, Yolanda was a senior account executive and diversity manager at Borshoff. She began her career as a journalist and has held roles in corporate and non-profit communications. Yolanda received her Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Franklin College.
