QuickStart Leadership Conference Recap
Committee and board members from PRSA Hoosier Chapter attended the PRSA East Central District QuickStart Leadership Conference Friday, Sept. 23. The event featured PR practitioners sharing best practices, strategies for impactful DE&I efforts and award-winning campaigns, while also highlighting resources and supports for chapter leaders.
“QuickStart was a great reminder of the dedicated, energized people who lead PRSA at the national and East Central District levels,” commented Jennifer Young Dzwonar, PRSA Hoosier chapter director of advocacy and ethics. “They are committed to sharing best practices, ideas, recommendations and thought starters to make each of our chapters stronger, more vibrant, and more inclusive. It was convenient and rewarding to listen remotely and yet feel a connection to PR pros across five states.”
PRSA Chair Dr. Felicia Bow presented during the conference sharing more about the DE&I work on the national level, activating PRSSA members and celebrating the 75th anniversary of PRSA. She shared details about a forthcoming book looking back on the history and impact of PR professionals.
“It was a great balance between professional development and tips for chapter leaders,” said Kara Seward, PRSA Hoosier Chapter director of member services. “There were insightful recommendations from current and past chapter leaders to avoid burnout. They shared tips on how to engage and involve members at every level – of the chapter and in their careers. This not only prevents burnout but builds new leaders.”
PRSA Hoosier Chapter board sent six members to the virtual conference. The virtual format reduced overall costs and resulted in the board approving fees for additional chapter members to participate.
“This was the second time I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the QuickStart Leadership Conference. After each conference I have felt refreshed and empowered to be a better leader for the chapter,” said Hyacinth Rucker, PRSA Hoosier Chapter president-elect. “I was beyond excited to learn that our chapter won the PRominent Award this year. We have an AMAZING group of volunteers that give unselfishly of their time and talent every day. I am so grateful to serve with them.”
